Take the Heat out of emissions with ICE
Industrial Catalytic Engineering (UK) Limited
The Alternative Choice
HF & HCl - Absorption Modular Systems (AMS)
For many years Lime has been used to reduce Hydrogen Chloride, Hydrogen Fluoride along with other pollutants from a variety of process plants. Lime powder or bicarbonate is blown into a reactor housing and forced over filter elements normally bags or candles, these are used to trap and hold the lime for the reactive absorption to take place. The filter systems have been relatively successful although a number of plants have experienced problems due to certain constraints required by the lime dosing method.

ICE (UK) are introducing a new type of concept for removal of HCl and HF emissions, using a patented module block the system offers some major benefits to both water and lime injection systems.

Lime Module Block
- No increase in particulate
- High rates of Absorption
- Low Capital Costs
- No Moving Parts
- Very Low back
- Limited waste disposal & Recyclable
- No need to upgrade of fan
- Increase Blocks for Future increase in Legislation
- No Maintenance
System Process
The system comprises of a special designed reactor housing, the internal structure allows for rows of blocks consisting of Calcium Hydroxide compounds to be located in to the exhaust system.
The size of the reactor and the number of blocks depend upon:
1. The emissions level from process and the legal requirement for the particular process
2. The back pressure of the process and fan capabilities
3. Allowances in design for possible future reduction in emissions
4. Stack flow rate
5. Stack Temperatures
Process
The off gases containing HCl and HF flows through the Calcium Hydroxide " (Ca(OH)2 " blocks and absorb the HF and HCl. The following reactions take place over the blocks.

For removal of HF
Ca(OH)2 + 2HF -------> CaF2 + 2H2O

For removal of HCl

CaCO3 + 2HCl -------> CaCl2 + H2O + CO2

The end product is of a very high purity and can be recycled into raw materials, typically used in the cement, refractory or chemical industries. Typical Applications The dry absorption system can be used for HF and HCl abatement in the following process industries.
Typical Applications
The dry absorption system can be used for HF and HCl abatement in the following process industries.
  Refractory and Acid resistant material Brick and Tile Manufacturer's Ceramic and Pottery Industries Porcelain and Terracotta Industries Stainless Steel pickling process's Crystal and Glass manufacturer Incinerator and smelting industries Smelting and Foundries
The AMS System is fully controlled by the use of an ETI- NEO cross duct laser, the monitor is a single component instrument containing a tune-able diode which gives single line spectral absorption at very narrow band pass (0.1nm). The accurate reading provides a signal to automatically operate the motorized dampers, thus controlling the flow through the reactor and limiting the level of emissions to the required permitted level.
